Illinois to Texas

Main Destination:  Texas

Starting Point:  Peoria, IL

Texas has many more camping opportunities than I believe most people think.  It is not all desert either…  There is the Piney Woods area of the East and the hill country to the west of the Austin.  There are many camping opportunities with good hiking, great terrain and beautiful scenery.  Another route for this trip would be to stay on I-44 through Missouri to Oklahoma City before going south into Texas on I-35.

We did not actually stay at Trail of Tears State Park as we showed up after 10:00 and the gate was closed.  We ended up driving a couple more hours and pulled into a Walmart parking lot around 2 o’clock in the morning for a short nap.
