Review of Village Creek State Park Campground in Wynne, Arkansas
November 2009 – 2 Nights
The park atmosphere is fantastic. The park is very large with 3 main camping areas. The first is for tent and rv campers, the second is full hook up sites and the 3rd is an equestrian camp. The park is very big with large day use areas. We stayed on site 61 in the full hook up loop. There is a lot of terrain to the park and all loops are bordered by woods. It really was a beautiful park and a nice place to stay.
Campsite spacing is fantastic in the full hook up sites. Plenty of room for the kids to run around and play without running into another camper. The tent and rv loop was a little closer spaced but still plenty of room.
The full hook up sites are a mix of very large paved pull thru or back-in sites. our site also had a large gravel area, with a very nice picnic table, park grill, lantern hanger and a nice fire pit with cooking grate. I did not need any leveling blocks for our site and most other sites looked fairly level as well.
There are quite a few hiking trails. Some may be shared by horse or mountain bike, but you do have a lot of options. We hiked the military road trail which was a very nice little hike. If you stay at the park, I definitely recommend taking the military road trail. This trail leads you back to a section of the well known Trail of Tears. There are story boards along the trail that really put you back in time, which makes the hike more meaningful. It is about a 2 mile round trip hike with 2 routes that you can take to it.
There are 2 nice lakes in the park for electric motors only. Kayaks and small boats can be rented for day use. We did not get out on the water but both lakes appeared to be nice and I wish we had the canoe at the time.
We did not do any fishing but both lakes are stocked with a variety of fish.
Lots of room for kids to play plus other day use areas to visit. The inside of the tent and rv loop is completely open which would make it a great camping area for kids. The space between sites in the full hook up loop also provides for great play areas for kids. There were woods behind our site as well. There was also a nice playground in our loop that Kyle enjoyed playing on.
Overall this was a fantastic park, really nice and I wish we would have had more time. We were only there for a weekend on our way back from Texas. If I would have known how nice of a park it was we may have planned a couple extra days. If we get the chance, we may plan a longer stay sometime to enjoy the rest of the trails.
Full hook-up sites available with paved pads
