Siloam Springs State Park Campground Review

Review of Siloam Springs State Park Campground in Clayton, Illinois

September 2009 – 2 Nights

Most sites are shaded. Some sites have quite a bit of spacing between them, where others are a little tighter. We stayed in site #6 which was very shaded and surrounded by woods. The park atmosphere was very nice and relaxing.

Campsite Spacing

Some sites have quite a bit of spacing and others are tight. It just depends on where you end up at in the park. Campsite #6 where we stayed had a ton of space between us and the next site.

Campsite Quality

Our site was a gravel back-in and very nice. I believe most of the sites were actually gravel back-ins. Our site did not have any grassy area, but some of the other sites did. There is quite a mix of different sites throughout the park to choose from. Our site had lots of privacy.

There are some hiking trail loops that would probably be quite good for short family hikes. We did not do any of the hikes. Reid was only a month and a half old at the time and we did not have any baby carriers.

I rented a jon boat for the afternoon to take Kyle out on the lake. The lake is electric motor only and was a very nice little lake. There are both jon boat and canoe rentals at the camp store by the lake.

We did catch a crappie and a catfish while out on the jon boat. There are docks near the concession store to fish from, with a little bit of shore as well, near the area. Most of the lakeshore is not accessible to fish from.

There are day use areas to use with open areas for the kids to run around in. Reid was less than 2 months old, but Kyle was able to play around the campsite quite a bit.

Overall Comments

Overall, this was a great weekend get-away campground. It was about a two hour drive for us, and we thought it was a great place for us to go for the weekend. I would definitely recommend it as a place to try out for a weekend if you are within a couple hours and are looking for a new campground to try out. We really thought the lake was nice. The water was fairly clear in the lake. It is probably a campground that you could spend more than just a weekend at.
