Review of Red Rock Campground in New Church, New Mexico
March 2016 – 1 Night
The campground is set just off the main highway with scenic red rock cliffs in the background. The red rock cliffs are actually close enough to walk right up next to just off the back edge of the campground. The campground is all sand.
The campsites are all fairly close to one another without any barrier between each site. Some have a little more space than others. I would imagine during the busy season that it could feel pretty tight.
The campsites are all sand and some and not all level. Some of the sites are great, but others are actually a little confusing as to which site is which and the best way to pull in. Many have both water and electricity, but water was shut off on some of them when we were there.
There looks to be some great hiking right from this campground. I would stop here again on my way through and plan 2 nights so that we could spend a day hiking.
I didn’t see any playground equipment, but the kids thought the red rock cliffs were pretty cool and you could take the a short ways up the hike. We checked out the first part of the hike, but didn’t have time to really get into the trail.
The park seems a little rough in the respect of being all sand and a few interesting placed campsite, but I would totally stop here again on the way through as it is really easy to find and I would really like to go on the hikes. It was really nice waking up to the view of the red rock cliffs behind the camper.
