Review of Nerstrand State Park in Nerstrand, Minnesota
May 2010 – 5 Nights
This is nice park with a small town relaxed atmosphere. I was really relaxed here. It is a smaller campground that is mostly wooded with a nice day-use area and plenty of hiking trails.
Campsite spacing is a bit mixed. There are a few sites that have some decent spacing between them, but most are fairly close. There is some natural brush barrier between most of them that make it workable.
The campsites have nice gravel back-ins, but some of them do require quite a bit of leveling from side to side. They have picnic tables and nice fire pits with cooking grates. Some of the campsites would be quite difficult to park larger RVs in and some would not accept slide out because of tree locations.
There is some great short family hiking to do here. The trails are wide gravel trails that meander through the open woods with a very peaceful atmosphere. There is a nice little waterfall to hike down to from the the day-use area or campground loop. This would be a nice day trip place just to do some hiking in nature.
There is no boating access near the park.
There is no fishing near the park.
Great place for the kids. The playground is at the day-use area, but it is just a short path over to the day-use from the campground. The campground loop is small enough that the kids can ride their bikes around and you can still keep an eye on them. The hiking trails are also short enough to get the kids out on the trail with out burning them out.
This is a nice park and worth a couple hour drive to spend the weekend. I would recommend getting reservations as it is a smaller park.
