Review of Lake Anita State Park Campground in Anita, Iowa
March 2014 – 1 Night
Nice open atmosphere overlooking a lake with some rolling hills. There is also a very large day use area that wraps around the lake.
Campsite Spacing and Quality
Nice grassy sites. RV sites have a gravel back-in drive. Sites also have picnic tables and fire pits with cooking grates. The sites are close together, without any barriers between you and your neighbor.
Hiking and Biking Trails
There is a nice bike path trail about 4 miles long that takes you around the lake and connects some of the day use and camping areas.
There is a nice little lake that any size motor boat can use, but at trolling speeds only. The lake would be great for small fishing boats, canoes and kayaks.
We didn’t do any fishing, but the lake is stocked with a variety of fish, including walleye. There are also a quite a few areas for bank fishing so you don’t have to have a boat to do some fishing.
It was sub freezing temperatures when we were there, but the beach area appears to be of decent size and has a buoyed off swim area.
This would be a great park for kids between the shore fishing, swim area and nice bike path around the lake.
We stayed here on our way through Iowa, but I would stop again. I could see how this park could be packed in the peak season and may not be as enjoyable, but I could come back and spend a couple of days in the off season to enjoy the nice atmosphere.
