Review of Clear Lake State Park Campground in Clear Lake, Iowa
March 2015 – 1 Night
We were the only people in the park, so the atmosphere was fantastic. The layout is the typical campground drives, with sites stacked next to each other and would probably feel a little crowded during the summer. There is a rustic tent camping loop that is separate from the main RV loop. From the south end of the RV loop, you can see through the park down to the water and it is quite a nice view.
Campsites are in rows next to each other, so there wouldn’t be much spacing once it was full of campers.
Quality of the campsites was nice. Most sites appeared to be fairly level. I didn’t even unhook our trailer from the truck and everything was leveled out nice. There are quite a few pull through sites, however, we had to back out of ours because of the post placement on the pull out side was hard to avoid. Sites have gravel pads surrounded by grass and all have a designated fire pit.
They do advertise hiking, but they are not really hiking trails. They are more just some paths that go between the camping, lake and day-use areas.
The lake looked beautiful and of good size for many boats and activities
We did not do any fishing, but I would have to assume there are plenty of fishing opportunities, if you had a boat.
There was a nice little playground that the kids enjoyed. I could see it definitely getting packed in the summer time. I am not sure how busy it would be in the summer, but there are plenty of campground drives for the kids to ride bikes up and down and not be too far away.
I would consider this a nice local weekend camping spot to get away, but I wouldn’t make a long trip to go visit. I would definitely pull in here again on my way to or from my main camping destination. The park did seem to be taken care of.
