Review of Chatfield State Park in Littleton, Colorado
March 2014 – 1 Night
This is one of the nicer parks we have been to. There was still snow on the ground when we camped here and we stayed in D loop. We had small pine trees around us and a great view of the mountains. I have put this park on our list to go back and potentially spend a whole week.
Campsite Spacing and Quality
Campsite spacing is really good. It is probably the best in D loop that is open year round. All sites have paved back-in or pull thru pads with picnic table and fire ring with a cooking grate. There are quite a few sites that have full hook ups for RVs. I was really impressed with the layout of this park and the quality of the campsites.
Hiking and Biking Trails
There is plenty of hiking and biking opportunities in the park with over 20 miles of trails both paved and gravel. We didn’t get the chance to use them since we were only there for one night, but I doubt you would get bored.
There is a really nice lake that appears to have 2 different boat launches on it.
We didn’t do any fishing, but the lake is stocked with a variety of fish.
There is a really large beach at the day use area.
This is a great park for kids with the nice playgrounds, spacious campsites, trails and beach.
I’d like to come back and camp at this park again for at least 4 or 5 days to enjoy all that it has to offer. There is a great view of the mountains from your campsite, and having the trails and lake would make for a very nice and relaxing week. I highly recommend camping at this park.
